See-saw Saul, one moment he
is up, the next he is down. It must have
been difficult for poor David to experience
both the favor and wrath of King Saul almost
within the same heartbeat. On numerous
occasions David had opportunity to get even
with Saul but he didn't. David respected the
position Saul occupied as king of Israel.
The message for us is that at times 'the
position' rather than 'the person' requires
respect. Whether it be parent, teacher,
boss, mayor or anyone over us in authority,
we may be obligated to show respect even
when it isn't earned.
